Body parts in freezer

A 27-year-old Soweto man has been apprehended by the police after his girlfriend made a shocking discovery of body parts in his freezer after he left her alone to go to his shop. The body parts were in multiple bags. The girlfriend hastily reported to the Man’s neighbor about what she saw.

The suspect allegedly locked himself in a room and stabbed himself before he was arrested when the Protea Glen community confronted him on Saturday, 13 November. He has however been admitted to the hospital while still under Police guard.

“The lady who found the body parts were traumatised, she was shaking, vomiting. When my husband came, he heard the story and he alerted the other neighbors via our community WhatsApp group,” said the neighbour, Sarah Marumole

Members of the community, including an off-duty police officer, gathered outside the suspect’s house and waited for him to return. Another neighbor also checked the freezer, opened a bag, and saw a human arm.

According to the community, it took two and a half hours for the police to arrive and even longer for the ambulance to come. During this period the suspect allegedly locked himself in a room and harmed himself.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in Soweto for medical treatment and he remains there. He is expected to appear in court once he is able to, according to Brigadier Brenda Muridili.

The suspect reportedly works for a prominent insurance company and his girlfriend is a student at the University of Johannesburg.

The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) forensic experts are examining the body parts and it is suspected that they may belong to more than one person.
