Community members are shattered as the old favourite uniform outlet burns down. Boundary Silk Bazaar opened in 1939.

One of Kempton Park’s oldest landmarks, Boundary Silk Bazaar, went up in flames on Tuesday evening.

According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), the call came in at 22:20.

“On arrival, the structure, at the corner of Albatross Road and Sarel Street, was burning,” said Ntladi.

“Behind the business shops, are residential flats that were saved.

“Efforts to extinguish the blaze continued throughout the night until after 10:00 this morning.

“The cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations into the matter will continue.”

According to SAPS Service Ekurhuleni North District’s Sgt Barbara-Anne Ferreira, Kempton Park SAPS opened an inquest following the blaze.

“The entire factory shop and warehouse were damaged by the fire,” said Ferreira.

“The family representative Mr Lahee said he is pleased that there was no loss of life as a result of the fire.

“The value of the damage is still to be determined.

This company is known to Kempton Park community since 1939.
