In case you don’t know, sitting on the toilet for too long can lead to a condition medically known as hemorrhoids which causes the inflammation and enlargement of the blood vessels in the anus.

Hemorrhoids can also be caused by constipation and remaining in a sitting position for so long. This condition can be classified into two: the External hemorrhoids that are located under the skin around the anus. They can form a small and hard bulge. They can also cause bleeding, painful swelling and itching.

Internal hemorrhoids are found in the rectum and usually are not painful, but can cause bleeding that shows in the poo.

How to avoid Hemorrhoids:

1. Don’t spend too long on the toilet

You should not spend too long on the toilet. The longer you sit on the toilet, the more pressure you exert on your internal abdomen. This can cause blood to accumulate in the blood vessels around your rectum.

2. Consume more water and fibre

Eating foods rich in roughage and drinking more water will help your poop become more flexible and reduces strain when you have a long call.

3. Don’t delay pooping

When the urge to take a dump appears, don’t put it off. The longer you take, the harder it becomes. This increases your chances of constipation and haemorrhoids.
