Who is Hamilton Ndlovu? Mr. Ndlovu is a controversial businessman facing some serious corruption allegations. The Instagram millionaire from Johannesburg is accused of stealing millions of Rands that were supposed to be used to acquire Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to help mitigate Covid-19.

Thabiso Hamilton Ndlovu also known as Hamilton Ndlovu is a noteworthy South African big-time operator who made a scene in the South African celebrity blogs and social media when he bought five luxurious cars including one Lamborghini Urus, two Porches, and two Jeeps all at once and made a spectacle of it. He is a business guru who has ventured into numerous fields of exploitation including aviation, the mining industry, and railway works among others. He founded Hamilton N Holdings in 2016 and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the company.

After completing university, Hamilton received employment in 2012 and began working as a technical sales assistant for 11 months in ATCOM, a company that manufactures electrical products. In 2013, he got a promotion in the same company to work as an Electrical Design Engineer and later on in 2016 moved on to work as a Quality Manager in ATCOM. 

Hamilton started his own company, “Hamilton N Holdings” later that year after a short four months of being a Quality Manager in ATCOM. His company according to did so well and within no time he became quite a success in the industry and quickly garnered fame on social media.

Hamilton recently got entangled in a corruption scandal involving about eight companies involved in acquiring tenders of R172million to recklessly procure personal protective equipment from the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) and he is both directly and indirectly associated with the scandal. His cars have been confiscated and R6million in his bank accounts frozen.

SARS targets Hamilton Ndlovu

Hamilton Ndlovu SARS conflict began after he posted the luxurious vehicles in 2020, attracting the taxman’s eye. It was established that Ndlovu had not paid tax on his multi-million rand acquisitions. SARS searched Hamilton Ndlovu’s house before seizing approximately R60-million worth of funds (over R6-million in his bank accounts) and assets belonging to the businessman. Assets confiscated included three of his Porsches (Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, a Porsche Cayenne S Coupe, and a Porsche Panamera GTS Sport).

Hamilton Ndlovu loots again news surfaced when it was established that in 2020, at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, eight firms linked to Thabiso received Personal Protective Equipment contracts worth a total of R172-million from the NHLS. The companies included Hamilton Holdings, Hamilton Projects, Mok Plus One, Abompetha, and Feliham. However, according to Hamilton Ndlovu’s latest news, out of the R172-million, only R15-million appears to have been used for the purchase of PPE.

High-flying businessman Hamilton Ndlovu was once the envy of many petrolheads as he flaunted his fleet of luxury vehicles on Twitter, inadvertently setting tongues wagging about how a man in his early 30s could afford to spend millions on five cars, including a Porsche and a Lamborghini, in one day.

Soon after posting his high-end cars to social media in May 2020, his big spending started to unravel as the Hawks and Special Investigating Unit (SIU) took aim at multi-million rand personal protection equipment (PPE) contracts he scored earlier in the year.

It soon emerged that Ndlovu and the companies he was associated with were awarded PPE deals worth R172 million by the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS).

The SIU’s probe into Ndlovu and related businesses formed part of its investigation into more than 5 400 government Covid-19 procurement contracts, valued at R14.3 billion. The state and its various entities awarded contracts to 3 066 service providers.

HAMILTON NDLOVU ORDERED TO PAY BACK R158M RECEIVED FROM IRREGULAR PPE CONTRACTS

On Tuesday, the Special Tribunal declared as unlawful and invalid 19 contracts awarded to Ndlovu and his businesses. The contracts were worth R172 742 175. The tribunal ordered that the respondents, Ndlovu, and his businesses, repay R158 850 921.1, including interest “at the prescribed rate calculated from the date the NHLS made payment for the orders”.

The tribunal further ordered that all assets owned by the responding parties be auctioned off or sold to recoup the money owed to the NHLS. This included any properties and vehicles Ndlovu still owned.

In December, the Special Tribunal dismissed an application by Ndlovu and the other parties to have the SIU’s review process stayed.

In September, City Press reported that Ndlovu’s assets worth R42 million had been frozen.

The investigating unit said it found that only R15 million was used to purchase and provide PPE to the NHLS.

“The SIU obtained and analyzed the bank statements of the front companies and of Mr Ndlovu and of other companies and individuals linked to him.

Hamilton Ndlovu cars repossessed

Daily Maverick reported that Sars was looking into how Ndlovu accumulated his wealth and was also interested in knowing if the businessman was up to date on his tax payments.

The report said Sars conducted a search and seizure operation at Hamilton’s residence on September 11, after the North Gauteng High Court issued the provisional preservation order.

Ndlovu’s three Porsches — a 911 Carrera Cabrio, a Cayenne S Coupe and a Panamera GTS Sport — have reportedly been seized. Sars has also frozen more than R6m in the companies’ bank accounts.
