In a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in South Africa, a multidisciplinary team led by the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Team have arrested five individuals for their involvement in the kidnapping of a Midrand businessman on January 18th, 2023.

The suspects, who were arrested at residential properties between Pretoria and Johannesburg, include a Zimbabwean man, his wife and girlfriend. To date, the team has arrested more than 124 suspects, with 81 still in police custody. In addition to the arrests, the police have also seized a Toyota Corolla and Toyota Quantum that were used in the commission of the crime, along with multiple phones and SIM cards.

The suspects had demanded ransom payment from the family and business associates of the victim following the kidnapping. The quick action of the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Team and their efforts to bring the suspects to justice serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and ensure the safety of citizens in South Africa.
