IEC is getting ready to announce the final results of the just concluded municipal election with over 98% of election results completed. A political party, National Freedom Party (NPF) doesn’t seem to be satisfied with the turn-up of the votes so far, has announced that she will be approaching the Pietermaritzburg court in a quest to stop the official announcement of IEC by Thursday evening.
As opposed to IEC’s released results of six wards The NPF believes and alleged that she has won seven wards in eDumbe, KwaZulu-Natal
At 8:30 on Thursday, IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo said that 98,5 percent of expected results have been finalized and 99 percent of the total results are already in the system awaiting scanning and auditing.
“This means of the 64 502 results expected, 64 467 have been captured into the results system. Of the 64 467 results captured, 64 402 have audited and 63 624 have been scanned into an image and thus available,” said Mamabolo.
“The next step in the electoral process is for the Commission to formally declare the results and publish the names of the elected councillors,” said Mamabolo.
“The publication of the names councilors – designate will facilitate the convening of inaugural meetings of the re-constituted councils.”
