BREAKING: Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer resigns with immediate effect.

Following his recent poor performance in with the Orlando Pirates in recent times, losing to Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs the club has confirmed that head coach Josef Zinnbauer has resigned with immediate effect.

Josef Zinnbauer may not be one of the most famous German stars or household names in the game of soccer, but there is no denial that he was playing at a top-level before his career was cut short by an injury. As a retired German footballer, he was appointed as the new manager of the South African football club Orlando Pirates FC.

On Saturday, the 51-year-old was in the dugout as the Sea Robbers went down 2-1 in their MTN8 quarter-final against Swallows FC, ending their chances of retaining the title.

In his statement he mentioned that he was grateful to the chairman and management for giving him the opportunity to be the head-coach of a big club. He added that his time on the team has ended and he has enjoyed his time there. “I have spent the last two years away from my family, and for this reason, I have decided to hand in my resignation. I would like to wish the club and its supporters all the best for the future,” he said.

That was the German mentors final game which took his record to 35 wins, 20 draws and 13 defeats in a total of 68 matches.

Zinnbauer background

Zinnbauer’s coaching career started at VfB Oldenburg as head coach in 2005 and was there until 2010. He then became an assistant coach at Karlsruher SC. He was head coach of Karlsruhe’s reserve team. He started coaching the reserve team for Hamburger SV in 2014, In the Regionalliga Nord.

He led the reserve team to eight wins in eight matches prior to becoming head coach of the first team on September 2014. He replaced Mirko Slomka, who was sacked the previous day. His first match in–charge finished in a 0–0 draw against Bayern Munich. He was sacked on 22 March 2015.

He was appointed as a head coach of a South African on the 10th of December 2019, as a professional football club Orlando Pirates FC.
