Ahead of her much-anticipated album Nqaba Yam, which is set to be released in June, singer and songwriter Zahara has released a single.
Speaking to SunBuzz Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana, said Nyamezela is about holding onto hope even on days of adversity.
“Nyamezela is a beautifully written song which I believe many people will relate to. It talks about enduring tough times,” she said.
“As a nation, we’ve endured enough with the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the song also speaks to today’s current situation with the pandemic, I wrote it while I was going through a difficult period in my life.
“I hope it becomes a companion to the people of Mzansi during these difficult times.”
The 32-year-old singer said working on the song was amazing.
“I’d be lying if said I didn’t enjoy myself while making the song. The atmosphere in the studio was amazing and everything just came by organically.
“It didn’t feel like work at all. I worked with my long-time producer Mojalefa (Thebe), who has produced all my songs from Loliwe up to date.
“He understands me as a musician and the type of message I want to put across in my music. We’ve created a masterpiece.”
She said she hoped her upcoming album lived up to expectations.
“People have been waiting patiently for this album, and I can’t wait for them to hear it and the growth that has happened since my last album,” she said.
Zahara, who lost her sister in a car accident earlier this year, said she’s healing with time.
“After news of her passing everyone was waiting for me to break down, which never happened. I feel like she left a part of her with me,” she said.
Zahara said Nyamezela is now available on all digital music platforms.
