About hundreds of firends, family and well-wishers gathered at Dutywa on October 20th, to commemorate with the late businessman and philanthropist, Mthetheleli Ngumbela, who died in a car accident on the N2 between Butterworth and Idutywa on October 13.

Ngumbela (81) had been driving back to Dutywa from his farm in Healdtown when his car collided with a truck about ten kilometres from Dutywa.

He has been described as kind, caring, selfless and a champion of community development by several mourners that spoke at his memorial service held at Dutywa Stadium today.

Another memorial service was also held in Butterworth today.

Ngumbela’s funeral service will be held in his hometown of Healdtown near Fort Beaufort on Saturday, October 23.

Popularly known as “Bab’uNdlovu” a nickname derived from his clan name, Ngumbela was known for his love for cricket and his dedication to develop grassroots cricketers through his annual Healdtown Cricket Tournament.

He also sponsored an annual horseracing event in Dutywa called Ngumbela Masimanyane Horseracing Club to the tune of R250 000 each year, since 2016.
