Julius Malema celebrated his 41st birthday in court today, after he was charged with illegally using a firearm during a 2018 EFF rally.
His day had appeared to be rather gloomy – until a number of his comrades arrived at the East London Regional Court to throw him a surprise party.
SURPRISE PARTY IN COURT FOR JULIUS MALEMA
The unusual scenes saw a number of EFF bigwigs enter the courtroom during the lunchbreak, carrying placards and messages of support for their embattled leader. This is the second time in a week Malema has been dragged to court by AfriForum, following a recent hate speech case.
Struggle songs and elaborate cakes also formed part of the celebrations, which brought a beaming smile to Juju’s face. The political firebrand posed for pictures, and even record the events on his own phone.
EFF THROW SURPRISE PARTY FOR LEADER
There is an outside chance Julius Malema could face a prison sentence for contravening the Firearms Act.
Four years ago, he was handed an automatic rifle on stage during the EFF’s five-year anniversary celebrations. He discharged it in front of a large crowd, firing bullets into the air with reckless abandon.
Malema, however, has protested his innocence – despite video footage showing he DID pull the trigger. Nonetheless, the arduous legal proceedings failed to put a dampener on Juju’s surprise party.
