These seven SASSA grants increase in April here’s what they are now worth

Most people receiving SASSA grants this week will notice they get a little extra in April, and there’s ANOTHER increase due later in the year.

April promises to be a bumper month for the millions of South Africans who claim SASSA grants – as payments increase across the board. Beneficiaries will have a little extra in their accounts this month, but there’s a notable exception.

APRIL BOOST FOR THOSE RECEIVING STATE SUPPORT

The R350 SASSA grant – introduced at the start of the pandemic for the unemployed – has not been included in the payment hike. Though the additional sums are modest, and none top the 5% mark, this rise in cash handouts for everyone else comes just as the cost of living in South Africa begins to soar.

Therefore, very few households will feel any supplemental benefits from these increases – but nevertheless, they will still be warmly welcomed. The new monthly values of these SASSA grants were gazetted by the government last week.

“The Minister of Social Development has – in terms of the Social Assistance Act 2004 as amended, with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance – announced the increase in social grants. The increases will be effected on 1 April 2022 and 01 October 2022 respectively. The new maximum monthly amounts have been detailed.”
