Thapelo Molomo is a warrant officer in the SAPS with a voice so heavenly it has sent all the way to the final three of Idols SA
But the officer, who is stationed at the Brits police station in North West, is a gospel singer with immense talent.
With the support he has gathered from legions of fans across the country, he now says he can win the illustrious competition when the finals are announced on 13 November.
The officer, who helps other police officers with trauma counselling, joined the force in 2018 as an intern and was permanently employed in 2021.
“I’m not one of those officers who hold guns and chase criminals,”.
“I studied psychology and I am a professional counsellor. I help police officers with counselling on both their personal and work trauma experiences.
“Counselling goes well when you have a sense of love and respect for the next person. These are the teachings of the Bible where I learn and gain knowledge about what I do in SAPS.
Molomo was born in Diretsaneng village in Waterberg District Municipality in Limpopo province.
He grew up wanting to be a gospel singer and being on the IdolsSA top three just completed his dream.

“The national office of the police has been actively supporting me on this journey and my music fans have been behind me,” he said.
He said he started with auditions in early January and went through. He also got through to the top 12 with ease before being announced in the top three in October..
He hasn’t released a full gospel album, but he has released a hit track called “Unithatile” which is a mover and loved by the masses.
“It is a very big achievement to reach this far. I am excited. I will celebrate anything that will come out of the finals on the 13 November,” he said.
Molomo was grateful for the exposure he received especially from a local radio station in Tembisa (The Voice of Tembisa) which has followed his work from the beginning.
“My parents stay in Tembisa, I stay in Pretoria, I work in Brits, and I was born in Limpopo. I have fans in all these places,” he said.
