Sports update: Kaicher Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane joins Amakhosi Under-18

Recently appointed Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane took some time out of his busy schedule to watch the Amakhosi Under-18 side.

The youth Amakhosi side are currently participating in the Engen 2022 Knockout Challenge in Gauteng.

Zwane, who coached the Kaizer Chiefs youth side in the same tournament during the past, was on hand to watch the junior Glamour Boys on Friday afternoon.

Chiefs won both of their opening day fixtures against Jomo Cosmos and Randburg FC courtesy of 1-0 scorelines.

In other news, a former Kaizer Chiefs defender has suggested that Eric Mathoho will play a ‘new’ role at the club going forward.

The long-standing defender, alongside goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, are the only senior players left at Naturena.

And while his form may not see him feature regularly under Arthur Zwane, his role at the Glamour Boys according to Nhlanhla Kubheka.

Especially since the arrival of defender Zitha Kwinika, Mathoho may find little to no game-time under Arthur Zwane.

Despite this, Kaizer Chiefs will indeed have a fresh looking side next season. Meaning Mathoho looks set to play a vital ‘mentoring’ role to the club’s youngsters!

“You must keep those players who you think are influential in terms of guiding the youngsters and I think Mathoho fits that profile.” the former Kaizer Chiefs defender told Sowetan.

“Every team needs one or two senior players. Even though they might not play but their presence can do wonders in the camp.

“Mathoho is one of few senior guys left now. So maybe his role will be more of being a mentor to the young ones and the new ones.”
