On Tuesday 18 April 2023, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) arrested six African male suspects between the ages of 20 and 27 for possession and possible dealing in illegal substances in the Duduza and Tsakane areas. The suspects were found with various quantities of drugs including CAT, mandrax, crystal meth, and dagga.

DEU officers intercepted a 29-year-old male suspect on the corner of Mzimande and Khumalo Streets in Duduza, with twenty ziplock bags of CAT, valued at R600. Another suspect, a 27-year-old male, was found on Molise Street with nine full and six half mandrax tablets, valued at R600. On Molio Street, a 24-year-old male suspect was found with ten ziplock bags of crystal meth, valued at R1500.

The officers received information from members of the community about a residence in the Coolbreeze section of Duduza suspected to be a drug dealing safehouse. Upon arrival, they discovered 293 ziplock bags of dagga and R35 in cash. In Tsakane, a 30-year-old male suspect was found with one ziplock bag of CAT, valued at R200.

The suspects were taken to Duduza and Tsakane police stations and will appear in the respective Magistrate’s Court soon. The EMPD commends its members for their work and sends a warning to those involved in drug dealing.
