Showmax unveils first telenovela The Wife, from Dudu Busani-Dube’s Hlomu

South Africans have taken to social media to express how they feel about the announcement from Showmax regarding turning the book The Hlomu into a TV production series and their first ever telenovela The Wife.

Most people admitted to being obsessed with The Hlomu Series. It was a hit sensation across the country. The author of the books, Dudu Busani-Dube, took to Twitter to reveal that the book series is going to become a TV production.

Magic’s The River and Mzansi Magic’s Gomora are among the top 10 shows on Showmax overall for the first half of 2021, but the African streaming service has never had a Showmax Original telenovela to call their own. Until now.

The Wife is based on Dudu Busani-Dube’s bestselling novels Hlomu the Wife, Zandile the Resolute, and Naledi His Love, which follow the lives of the eight Zulu brothers, a formidable crime family, through the eyes of the wives they marry. The 120 episode season will be split evenly between the three books, with the first 40 episodes focusing on Hlomu, a journalist who falls in love with a taxi driver, not knowing he’s behind the cash in transit heists she’s investigating.

The Wife is being produced by Stained Glass, the company behind SAFTA-winning shows like eHostela and Uzalo, South Africa’s most watched Soap opera.

Hlomu the wife, Zandile the Resolute, Naledi – His Love and Zulu Wedding are all smash hits with fans. People, especially women, fell in love with the story. A lot of women admitted to falling in love with the Zulu brothers. Mqhele seems to be the most loved brother.

There was a mixed reaction about the series being on TV. A lot of people are excited that the book series is turning into TV production, however, there are a lot of people who think that turning it into a TV production will ruin it. The storyline may be ruined.

The description of the characters is very specific, it will be difficult to find bug-eyed men who will play the roles of the Zulu brothers perfectly.

People have already imagined what the characters look like and the actors might ruin everything for people.
while some have started making suggestions on who the actors should look like else they would be disappointed and heartbroken.
