The Soweto Derby is scheduled to take place on 6 November at FNB Stadium and could cost Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates up to R1 MILLION more than normal!
According to SoccerLaduma’s official website, there are several reasons for this.
Covid-19 protocols, stadiums rentals, and the expected need for more staff will rapidly increase the expenses of planning a PSL game.
Especially, one between Chiefs and Pirates. Security will need to check for far more than just a ticket.
With vaccination cards having to be presented in addition to screening fans. The safety of our people is the priority. Security will also have to ensure social distancing between fans during the live game.
Amakhosi and Bucs fans will be hoping that they can return live to the Soweto Derby. It has been over 18 months since supporters were allowed to watch a DStv Premiership game. The last time was back in March last year.
Bafana Bafana welcomed 2000 fans back to the same venue earlier this month. This means that it can be done and officials have had practice with fans.
The PSL Executive Committee is currently in discussions to make this a possibility. No official announcement has been made yet.
