During weekly operations, more than 2100 people were detained in KZN, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker.
“Over 2100 people were detained in KwaZulu-Natal during police operations over the previous week, beginning on September 5 and concluding on September 11,” Naicker said.
“Crime-fighting operations conducted in all 11 districts of the province resulted in the arrest of 2 165 persons for various offenses.”
“Among those arrested were 118 for robberies and 84 for burglary.” Police arrested 407 people for drug possession, 34 for weapon possession, and 52 for possession of stolen goods.
During the same time frame, 579 people were arrested for assault, 56 for murder, and 61 for rape. Police also arrested 175 people for shoplifting, 117 for stealing, and 76 for intentional property damage.
Ten people were detained for auto theft and nine for carjacking.”
Major-General Phumelele Makoba, Deputy Provincial Commissioner, hailed the arrests and praised police officers for going above and beyond to bring criminals to justice.
