Panyaza Lesufi clinches ANC Gauteng leadership race beating out rival Lebogang Maile

Panyaza Lesufi emerged victorious at the Gauteng ANC conference beating his competitor Lebogang Maile by close margins.

Lesufi was elected with 575 votes while Maile obtained 543 votes. The leadership composition of the top five provided a mixed unity outcome with interesting victories for Maile’s “Adiwele” slate and Lesufi.

Despite Maile losing out on the top job, his other supporters took home the prize. The ANC in Ekurhuleni were the biggest winners of the night with the region’s secretary Thembinkosi TK Nciza elected as the provincial secretary.

Tasneem Motara, also from Ekurhuleni, was elected deputy provincial secretary. Lesufi’s slate also secured wins with Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko elected deputy chairperson.

Morakane Mosupye, who was nominated by those backing Lesufi, was elected as provincial treasurer.
