Just hours after a 4-0 humiliation against Mamelodi Sundown, Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo had a big smile on his face.
That’s because Bafana Bafana Ngcobo International married the baby’s mother in a traditional private wedding in her hometown of Durban last weekend.
It seems Ngcobo is eager to hear the final whistle so he can fly to Durban for his big day.
His team had a bad day at the office.
Before the start of the second half, they conceded two silly goals as sundowns crawled and stunned the Chiefs’ defence.
Even when Ngcobo was brought on to shake up the defence, his efforts were not good enough as Sundown rubbed salt into the already open wound by scoring two more goals.
And while many Chiefs fans suffered a crushing defeat and suffered mass abuse from opposing fans on Sunday, Ngcobo’s mind was on a merry-go-round.
“Njabulo and his mother have been seeing each other for a while. She even settled with him in Buccleuch, a suburb of Jozi. She was there for him long before football made him famous. We are happy for them,” said a source close to the player.
Before his fame, Ngcobo worked as a KFC employee in Durban and after being rejected by AmaZulu FC, he persisted until Swallows FC gave him a platform.
Ngcobo could not be reached on his mobile phone, but his commercial director, Mondli Nyuswa, confirmed that his client was married.
“It’s a private matter that I won’t be able to comment further on. I only met him after the Richards Bay game because he couldn’t be reached because he was in a camp in Durban,” Nyuswa said.
