Media Personality Kuli Roberts Dies At 49

The entertainment fraternity has been hit by yet another death, and this time it is that of popular media personality Nomakula “Kuli” Roberts. 

KULI ROBERTS DEATH CONFIRMED

Friends and colleagues of the actress, journalist and former Kaya FM radio presenter confirmed that she passed away on Wednesday evening, 9 February, just before a radio interview. 

A close friend to the 49-year-old Kuli Roberts also confirmed the news to Daily Sun this morning.  

KULI ROBERTS BIOGRAPHY

Nomakula Roberts was born on 16th December 1982. She was a celebrated fashion designer, actress, author, and television personality.

The South African is a multifaceted lady with many ambitions who is very good at changing an unpleasant scenario into something more enticing and appealing. 

Kuli Roberts grew up in her hometown alongside her sister, simply known as Hlubi Mboya. Her sister is also an actress. 

The actress got married to Beyer Roberts without the knowledge of her parents. Years after her union with her estranged husband, things fell apart between the two love birds, and they had to go their separate ways.

Kuli Roberts gave birth to two lovely children, Tembela Roberts and Laeun Roberts, for her estranged husband.

She once tweeted on her Twitter page that she bumped into her ex-husband, Beyer Roberts, at the airport, but her ex-husband couldn’t recognize her anymore. This might be as a result of her weight loss.

KULI’S CAREER

The actress was popularly known for her role in Mzansi Magic’s telenovela The Queen and recently appeared in the Netflix’s film Angelina. She was also planning to become a DJ.  

She boasts an illustrous career, having worked as a journalist, editor and presented several TV shows on South African television.  

Kuli Roberts got a role as an editor in the drum magazine fashion and beauty line. She also worked as a columnist at the Sunday world. 

Kuli Roberts got the role of a TV host in the SABC2 program from 2004 to 2005. She also hosted a popular TV show titled The Real Gaboza in 2008.

Between the years 2010 and 2013, she hosted a show titled “Headline,” the show talks about the latest happenings in the entertainment industry. In the same year of 2010, she was became a TV host on the Mzansi Magic Channel.

Kuli Roberts also became a host in 2012 on Kaya FM. The following year, she joined the sixth season of the SABC2 reality competition. As of 2016, she became a host on the Trending SA, featured on the SABC 3 program.

Roberts also made headlines in 2021 when she announced that she had joined the political party ATM and was reportedly running for a ward 65 councillor position in October. 

The ATM’s Mzwanele Manyi confirmed at the time that Roberts had joined their party as a candidate to be a ward councillor. A few days later, however, it was announced on social media that she was dismissed.   

Roberts was reportedly fired as Sunday World lifestyle editor following the rumours of her having been nominated as a ATM ward councillor at the time.

It is unclear at this stage how the mother of two died, and her family is expected to share the official news soon.
