Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood Cleared of Rape, Assault Charges: Young Striker Looks to Rebuild His Future

The Crown Prosecution Service has announced that charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior against Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood have been dropped. This decision was made due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence coming to light.

Greenwood, once considered one of English football’s brightest prospects and a product of the Manchester United academy, faced a difficult and challenging time over the past year as he dealt with the criminal charges against him. However, the withdrawal of the case marks a turning point for the young striker, who will no longer have to face the prospect of a criminal trial.

His arrest in January 2020 created a media storm and resulted in the suspension and later termination of his sponsorship deal with Nike, as well as his removal from active squads on FIFA 22. Despite these setbacks, Greenwood remained focused on his football and signed a new contract with Manchester United in February 2021 that runs until at least 2025.

The decision to drop the charges is a welcome relief for Greenwood and his family, who have had to endure the stress and uncertainty of the past year. It is only fair that the Greater Manchester Police announced that the striker would no longer face criminal proceedings, given the significant media coverage of this case.

Greenwood made his England debut against Iceland in September 2020 and was on his way to becoming one of England’s most promising talents. However, he and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden were sent home from the national team after breaching the team’s coronavirus guidelines.

This decision by the Crown Prosecution Service is a step forward for Mason Greenwood, who can now continue to focus on his football and work towards fulfilling his potential as one of English football’s brightest prospects.
