Recall, a 28-year old man was kidnapped in a broad daylight outside Benoni parking lot on November 12. According to police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo, the 28-year-old man was rescued on Tuesday 30 November, without any ransom being paid.
He added that five people were arrested during the rescue operation.
“The multi-disciplinary integrated task team immediately activated a new intervention which led to the rescue of Kardame.
“Following intensive investigations, the team initially arrested two people in Daveyton, including an Ekurhuleni Municipal Traffic Department employee, at 23:30 last night (Monday),” Naidoo said.
He said the team continued with investigations which led the team to Wattville, Benoni, GP, and at 09:00 on Tuesday arrested a third person.
The investigations eventually led the team to a house in Katlehong where Kardame was rescued, and two more men have arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to five people thus far.
Naidoo said all five arrested people are South Africans aged between 29 – 72 years.
“One of the arrested men is a well-known cash-in-transit robber who is currently out on bail,” he said.
The team recovered a total of at least 15 cellphones, a total of three firearms, including a semi-automatic rifle, shotgun, and pistol, as well as ammunition.
The five people arrested will appear in the Benoni Magistrates court on Thursday, 2 December 2021, on charges of kidnapping, extortion, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
