One of the biggest songs to ever come from this generation, and unarguably the biggest to ever come out from South Africa and Africa.
Jerusalema has been getting a lot of attention, including positive and negative from different quarters.
What seems to be like a legal battle is about to ensue between the two global hitmakers has taken a different dimension.
Nomcebo took to Twitter to share her experience and disappointment.
She stated that she has not to be said her royalty from the song, despite all the successes made and concluded that her lawyer has taken up the case to get her justice and what duly belongs to her.
This is not the first time the case between Master KG and Nomcebo is coming to the public discussion.
It is very hard to have a strong opinion on this because of how obscure the arrangements they had before the song became a global hit.
Therefore most people will be making conjecture based on their bias and not entirely the true state of the situation since both parties are claiming to be right.
But here are what we know and what we have gathered.
Master Kg is not an independent artist and we are sure that he doesn’t handle his publishing and royalty payments.
The CEOs of Open Mic Productions, Molau Rammala and Lionel Jamela, are in charge of the music sales, marketing and payment.
This is not the first time Nomcebo us having problems with a fellow artiste on similar situation.
You may recall that Popular House Music DJ Ganyani’s musical relationship with his artist Nomcebo crumbled in 2018.
When it was alleged that Nomcebo was bypassing her record label, Ganyani Entertainment, by accepting gigs individually despite having signed an agreement authorising Ganyani’s label to handle bookings for all the songs she recorded with the DJ and other artists under the same stable.
Nevertheless, if Nomcebo’s claims are true, she can easily get back what truly belongs to her as public sympathy doesn’t earn you any dollar.
Master KG has argued that the Agreement between him and Nomcebo was 50/50, but she wants 70/30, which he considers an unfair share.
He also admitted in the past that Nomcebo has been given R1.5m which places doubt on her account that she has gotten nothing from the song.
Furthermore, Master KG revealed that Nomcebo had her Jerusalema your without him but he never complained, but she picked offence when he went to the tour without her, which she has suggested in the media that Master KG is leaving her behind.
There are a couple of questions both parties must answer and we will be waiting for the whole details of the case since Nomcebo has taken the matter to court.
To Nomcebo;
1) Why did you go on a Jerusalema tour WITHOUT Master KG and the recorded knowledge?
2) Why did you say that you haven’t been paid a cent, whereas you were given R1.5m’?
3) Did you insist on 70/30 as against the initial 50/50 agreement?
To Master KG;
1. What was the initial agreement between you, The record label, Nomcebo?
2. What is the exact royalty that is due for her and how many has she been paid?
3. What effort have you, or the record label made in reconciling these issues when you first noticed her attitude, especial the solo tour?
Until these questions are duly answered, we are not going to take any side not conclude too early.
