How Much Does NSFAS Give For Allowances (2021/2022)
The College of Cape Town has sent out a notice to all students concerning NSFAS, covering allowances, appeals and applications.
Following a Financial Aid meeting with the College SRC on 24 April, it was said that NSFAS allowances are cleared for funded students who are eligible to receive them from the end of May.
Trimester 2 students are being verified and will be fully paid by 25 June 2021, said the College. Should you not be paid, you need to appeal for the college to clear with NSFAS.
They then went on to say that additional payments will be made during this and every week of June 2021 for successful applicants.
All NSFAS returning students will be paid subject to progression and registered for 2021 at the College. Should they not have been paid, students are urged to consult the Bursary clerk on their respective campus to submit an appeal for them at the bursary office.

University
Accommodation:
Asides from tuition fees, every student needs a conducive place to stay during their journey of study. This has been covered in the allowance system, but there’s no fixed amount, due to obvious factors. But you should note that it is the exact cost the university charges, nothing more, nothing less.
It should also be noted that if it’s a private school, the cost must not exceed costs for university residence.
Transport:
Movement is critical, and no student will stay at the same place. This is then covered in the allowance system. Students will get R7 500 per year to cover these expenses. It should be noted that it is up to 40 km from the School.
Living allowance
One has to spend money to live on earth. It will take money to get important things like food too. Hence, this was properly considered in the allowance system. Beneficiaries will get R15 000 per year
Book allowance
Students can’t but make use of books, as a prominent responsibility of theirs is to study books. Hence, beneficiaries will get R5200 per year under the allowance system, but it only applies to universities.
Personal Care allowance
Also important is this aspect, which has been well taken care of in the allowance System. Beneficiaries will get R2900 per year as personal care allowance.
TVET
Perhaps you are a student in a TVET college. Then this is for you. Let’s see the amount you will get as an NSFAS allowance.
Accommodation:
Your accommodation is crucial. Unlike University students, the amount here had been fixed, and you already know what you will get depending on the area you stay in.
If you reside in an urban area, you will get R24 000 per year from NSFAS allowance. Those that stay in the peri-urban area will be given R18 900 per year under the allowance system. Additionally, those staying in a rural area are entitled to R15 750 per year as beneficiaries, for their accommodation allowance.
Transport:
Beneficiaries in this category are getting R7 350 (up to 40 km from the School) via NSFAS allowance, to help their cost in moving from one place to another.
Personal Care allowance:

Dear Students
Returning and New Students
The College is computing NSFAS allowances due to Students. The following important information on
NSFAS allowances for 2021. Details as received from DHET-NSFAS Bursary Rules applicable for 2021.
(Limited to one PLP, NCV or R191 programme per student per annum)
Personal Care Allowance – R 2,900 annual paid per month.
Transport Allowance – R 7,350 annual paid per month.
College Residence – College will be paid by NSFAS.
Private Residents – R 25,200 annual paid per month.
NCV Annual (Including PLP) – payment monthly. (10 payments)
R191 Semester – payment by Semester period monthly. (5 payments)
R191 Trimester – payment by Trimester period monthly. (3 payments)
The College is applying the full rules applicable to NSFAS Student Applications. Only funded students are
eligible for allowances as from end of May as was cleared at the last FINAID meeting 24 April 2021 with
the College SRC. Should you not have appealed on the 17 May 2021 for any short payments/unfunded
status we assume that you have no claim.
Should you however still have a claim, the College requires you to complete an appeal form and hand it
in to the College by 11 June 2021. The College will than consider your application.
All NSFAS Returning Students will be paid subject to progression and registered for 2021 at the College.
Should you not have been paid please consult the Bursary Clerk on your Campus to submit an appeal for
you to the Bursary Office.
