The Roodepoort area of Gauteng, South Africa, has been grappling with a surge in hijackings and house robberies in recent times. In response to the situation, the Gauteng police force has launched Operation Okae Molao to crack down on criminal activity in the area.
Provincial Police Commissioner Elias Mawela stated that the operation has started off well, with detectives bringing in 727 wanted suspects and making arrests en route to a business robbery. Three people were arrested for drug-related offenses and firearms were recovered. At a roadblock set up as part of the operation, 87 people were arrested, with eight of them being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, three illegal shebeens were closed, and alcohol and dealers were confiscated.
