Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu is a former police officer on trial for allegedly murdering and plotting to kill relatives to cash in life insurance policies.

Ndlovu allegedly got one million four-hundred-thousand rand from life insurance policies killing her relatives.

She has appeared in court facing six counts of murder, four counts of fraud, obstruction of justice and eights counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Ndlovu is facing six counts of murder, four counts of fraud, obstruction of justice and eights counts of conspiracy to commit murder. The killing spree allegedly started in 2012 and came to an end in 2018.

She is accused of fraudulently taking out life insurance on behalf of her victims, listing herself as a beneficiary.

It is alleged that Ndlovu killed Mabasa and her five close relatives to cash in on their funeral and life policies she took out in their names.

She allegedly conspired to kill her mother, sister, nieces and nephews for money.

Ndlovu is also accused of killing six relatives, including her lover, and plotting to murder her sister, nieces, nephews and mother to cash in on funeral and life insurance policies. She allegedly pocketed one million four-hundred-thousand rand.

Among those, she is accused of killing is her partner Yingwani Maurice Mabasa, with whom she had a child. Mabasa died in October 2015 after the third attempt on his life. He was stabbed more than 80 times. Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu allegedly claimed R416,000 from insurance companies.

Her cousin Witness Madala Homu, who was murdered in March 2012. She allegedly received R131,000 from policies.

Her sister Audrey Somisa Ndlovu, who was killed in June 2013. Ndlovu allegedly claimed more than R717,000 in insurance.

Her niece Zanele Motha, who was killed in June 2016. She was apparently paid out about R120,000;

Her nephew Mayeni Mashaba, who died in April 2017. There was no information immediately available on whether she had taken out policies for him and whether she had put in claims.

Audrey’s son Brilliant Mashego, her nephew, who was killed in January 2018. There was no information available on whether she had taken out policies for him and whether she had put in claims.

undercover footage has been revealed showing alleged “killer cop” Rosemary Ndlovu telling a hitman and an undercover cop how easy it is for her to steal guns from a police station. 

“It works best when I am not the one working at the safe. I just take the keys, steal it and afterwards I throw it in the hole at the back. I will then call you and say, ‘Njabulo, go fetch it,’” said Ndlovu.

“It will be dark since it will be at night. You can then take it, dismantle it and then take it to the village.” 

The police operation involving a hidden camera captured Ndlovu in the front seat of the undercover cop’s car instructing the “hitmen” how to kill her sister and her sister’s five  children. In more released footage, Ndlovu spoke about how easy it was to steal weapons undetected.

Ndlovu is testifying in the Palm Ridge magistrate’s court and has said her behaviour in the footage is all an act. She denies all the charges against her.

Arrest & Trial

Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu was arrested in 2019. Ndlovu was arrested by an undercover police officer in Bushbuckridge shortly after she pointed out her sister’s house to the men. The police officer had posed as a hitman and Ndlovu told him how she wanted him to drug and burn her sister’s family of six.

Rosemary Ndlovu, who is facing six charges of murder, and others including fraud and attempted murder, was apparently “very moneyed and generous” to her colleagues at the Thembisa South police station on the East Rand.

Two of Ndlovu’s former colleagues, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, said she often came to everyone’s rescue, especially when most of them were broke.

In the video, she gives clear instructions that the family should be burnt alive in their home and says no guns and knives should be used. She said using weapons would cast suspicion on the deaths and would cause her problems when she sought to cash in the insurance policies. Ndlovu further states that she wants the children killed so that there will be no witnesses.
