Unemployment is a nightmare for many South Africans, although some sectors have try to proffer solution to that still, employment crisis continues.

Total employment decreased by 9,000 quarter-on-quarter in March; that’s a 0.1 percent decline from December 2020.

The latest quarterly employment statistics from Stats SA also show that total employment decreased by over 552,000 or 5.4 percent year-on-year between March 2020 and March 2021.

Full-time employment decreased by 63,000 quarter-on-quarter, to just over 8.5 million people in March this year, from over 8.6 million people employed in December last year.

The decreases in jobs came from the trade, community services, business services, construction and electricity industries.

Mining and manufacturing reported an increase in employment.

The report said 54,000 people managed to get part-time employment in the period thanks to the manufacturing industry needing part-time workers.

In the period, people also earned less.

Gross earnings paid to employees decreased by R26.8-billion to R715.3-billion in March this year from R742.1-billion in December 2020.
