Education Department spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima? has confirmed that an educator who allegedly forced boy learners to commit sexual acts has been suspended from Mdingi Primary School in Lusikisiki. 

“Yes, we know about this incident, as the Department of Education our first point of action was to get a report from the school. We then conducted a preliminary investigation and suspended the educator,” said Mtima. 

He added that they also arranged psycho-social support and counselling for learners. 

One of the parents confirmed that they marched to the school in an effort to ask the teacher to leave the school. 

She said the teacher targeted learners between the ages of 13 to 16. She said she was shocked when her son (14) told her about this incident. 

“He told me that this educator called him to his cottage where he stays. When he arrived?, he asked him to commit a sexual act while watching pornography on a laptop,” she said. 

Another parent who also wanted to remain anonymous said they were aware of this situation. She said they used to see learners sitting with this teacher sometimes in his cottage?. As parents?, they did not notice anything until one of the learners informed the school principal about this. 

“We are still shocked about this but as we speak now, we are having a meeting here at school,” said this parent. According to her, when this educator was asked about th?ese ?incidents, he said he was teaching the learners about life orientation. 

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed that Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was investigating two counts of sexual assault. 

“This comes after two children alleged that their educator sexually assaulted them between February and October this year. A suspect is known, and his arrest is imminent,” said Nkohli.
