DJ Fresh speaks on Rape Allegations, getting fired in his job, New album Voice Of Hope

The veteran DJ, made an appearance on MacG podcast and Chill where he explained a lot of things around his life including his family, wife, DJ work, getting fired on radio, politicians and the Ra.pe allegations against him.

Thato Sikwane, better known by his stage name DJ Fresh, is a former Motswana radio DJ, producer and entrepreneur based in South Africa. He is most well-known for his career on 5FM and Metro FM. DJ Fresh previously worked for YFM in Johannesburg, South Africa. He also worked for SABC Radio stations 5FM and Metro FM before he was fired over r*pe allegation

It was a mutual benefit situation as MacG offered Dj Fresh a podcast slot on the Podcast & Chill network and also Dj Fresh in return offered both MacG & Sol a potential radio slot on the new and upcoming radio station.

Well, it’s been one piece of good news after the other for the veteran DJ. Just recently, it was announced he’s being founding a radio station alongside pals and associates Robert Marawa, Tbo Touch and DJ Sbu. The station will reportedly be named “Fired FM” because the quartet was fire from their jobs as presenters.

On the R*pe allegation

DJ Fresh explained that it was during the MeToo, movement that all these things started, when people were being called out on social media by women.

Sometimes in August 2019, the movement #metoo started, some women started tweeting, dropping names and one girl tweeted, ‘Euphonic, how do you feel about drugging young girls and raping them’, so Themba ignored it, some weeks later she tweeted again, and I am added to it. So I called Themba and asked, do you know this person, he said he doesn’t know who the f*ck the person is, let’s ignore her, so we moved on with our lives, and then last year, it started again, I released a statement and said it is bullshit that never happened.

Fresh explained how the event turned out some girl took the tweet to Facebook, and it returned and found itself in the timeline of a popular poet Ntsiki Mazwai, which he directed the lawyer to confront her. But she was arrogant and doubled down on her position, which later degenerated into a court case that she lost R200,000 in damages which would not have happened if she agreed to pull the tweets down.

Some girls decided to post it on Facebook, and some poet girl whom I shouldn’t waste my energy on posted it on Twitter, and my lawyer, reached out quietly asked her to remove it, in arrogance she refused, after ANC woman leader pulled in, saying they are trying to silence people, and replied that nobody is silencing anyone here all I am saying is do not post things that are not substantiated here.

DJ Fresh says Ntsiki Mazwai had to pay R200 000 in damages because of her arrogance.

The arrogance continued, and it went to court, and she lost, she lost and this could have ended immediately, and I remember when the Judge said, they are not against activism, but it comes with great responsibility, if you can not fact-check it then leave it.

Dj fresh confessed how she admires Nksiki’s courage in her activism, but maintained that she should fact-check before running with it at every point, which she was warned earlier enough.

The weirdest thing, I am one of her biggest fans, I love the fact that she is bold, but don’t be bold for the sake of it, if you don’t have the fact, then leave it alone.

Fast-forward to January 2021, so I can not remember what I tweeted, and one of my followers commented on it, and said, Poet inboxes my followers, and said, you are here busy celebrating someone, while the victim is busy going for counselling, so, ignore it, mind you we were going to court again for the finalization with the poet. I won the case, and she is bared to never ever talk about me or post anything about

Middle of January, the woman from 2019, resurfaces and started again, I called the attention of Themba and asked him, are you sure you do not know this person, he said, no, and we moved on with our lives.

How the DJ fresh was fired from his job

According to him, while the saga continued, he had wanted to have a long vacation and somehow felt at that point it was ripe to call it a break, which he communicates to Themba, and they agreed on writing to the management to pull off from the show, which the management agreed but what the management did shocked everyone.

I am noticing this commotion, in my mind, I’m like, what are the chances that this commotion is linked to the second of February? this woman goes to open up a case against us, and then I called Themba on Friday night and told him, my man, let us actually call the station and tell them, let us call off the show, so we called the station manager to pull back from everything we are doing so that we are can deal with this thing. Now after to call off everything. Saturday morning, after we have agreed on the statement, the station released a statement, acting like the hero here. They have decided to pull us off.

The management of the radio station threw them under the bus because and they failed to protect himself and Euphonik as staff

He also pointed out that Anele Mdoda and the rest of his team failed to reach out to him and refused to communicate with him during those period.

DJ Fresh concludes by saying the r*pe allegations were bullshit, and he has moved on with his life for a greateer things ahead. he dropped a project on the 1st of October titled #VoicesOfHope.
