Kaizer Chiefs football club has made it to the MTN8 semi-finals two-legs which is scheduled to be played against AmaZulu FC.
Arthur Zwane has been in charge of the club as the head coach and have managed nine matches in total, one of which he led the club to the semi-finals.
It’s been seven years since Kaizer Chiefs reached the MTN8 final. Amakhosi’s last MTN8 final was in the 2015/16 season against the now defunct Ajax Cape Town.
The last time Chiefs won the MTN8 competition was the year before in the 2014/15 season with a 1-0 win against Soweto-based rivals Orlando Pirates.
Arthur Zwane has now been tasked with a difficult mission to take the club pass the semi-finals stage to reach the final once again after an absence of seven years from reaching the final.
AmaZulu FC is not an easy opponent so Kaizer Chiefs will have to select a very strong squad to potentially reach the final again.
Should the Soweto-based giants manage to win on aggregate against Usuthu, they will face off against either Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates.
Amakhosi doesn’t have a good track record in the semi-finals since their last semi-finals was won in the 2015/16 season.
In 2010 the Naturena base side lost the semi-finals to Orlando Pirates who eventually went on the win the cup.
In 2011, they progressed to the finals winning the semi-finals against Ajax losing to Orlando Pirates in the finals.
In 2012 they didn’t reach the semi-finals and 2013 the lost in the semi-finals against Orlando Pirates.
In 2014 they won the semi-finals against Platinum Stars and in 2015 they won the semi-finals against Bloemfontein Celtic.
Since their semi-finals against Celtic in 2015, Amakhosi have not won a semi-finals since in the MTN8 competition.
Arthur Zwane will have two matches to prove himself the worthy candidate to finally get the club over the line to reach the final.
