South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed Percy Tau’s rumored move to CAF Champions League title-holders Al Ahly.
Tau, 27, has been a target for the Reds for a while now after Pitso Mosimane had previously hinted that he will be bringing a player from South Africa to Al Ahly’s ranks.
What strengthened the rumors is that Mosimane is no stranger to the player as he coached him before in Mamelodi Sundowns.
Despite not having nearly enough playtime with Brighton, Tau was included in Broos’ squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Following his squad announcement, Broos admitted that he was worried about Percy’s situation as he’s not having enough time on the pitch which could be an issue for the forward.
Bafana Bafana head coach said: “He is an important player for the national team, If Percy does not play in the next months, I have a problem.
“But I heard some good news, I think he will not stay at Brighton and he will go to the Egyptian team with the South African coach, Pitso, Al Ahly.
“I think in the next few days it will be done and then he will have a chance to play, so there will be less of a problem for the future.”
