Al Ahly coach has insisted that the reigning African champions are prepared for Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League group stage tie this weekend.
Samy Komsan, assistant coach of the Red Devils, has asserted that they are ready to avenge their loss to Masandawana earlier in the competition.
The group is delicately poised following the Egyptians’ hard fought 3-2 victory over Al-Merreikh last weekend. Al Ahly are now only three points behind group leaders Sundowns, who have accumulated seven points after three games.
The record Champions League winners are now in South Africa, and are set to face the runaway DSTV Premiership log leaders at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the challenges a side like the Brazilians might pose, Komsan believes his charges could come away from Johannesburg with all three points on offer.
“Travelling just after Pyramids game and the weather change between Egypt and South Africa put a lot of pressure on the players,” Komsan said, per KingFut.
“However, I completely trust the technical staff and the players, and I am sure they can return to Egypt with a positive result.“
“We studied Sundowns well, and the little details make the difference in important games. We are determined to win our third consecutive Champions League title.
“Our group has strong teams, and they are all aiming to qualify, but we will do all we can to win the title.”
It was a historic victory for Sundowns in their first meeting in Cairo, when Thapelo Morena’s 85th-minute goal earned them a 1-0 win.
Pitso Mosimane’s men will be looking to retaliate with a victory of their own but will be wary of the 5-0 drubbing they suffered in South Africa at the hands of the Pretoria-based side back in 2016.
Masandawana will be looking to make history by defeating the Egyptians twice in the same Champions League campaign for the first time ever.
