THE DEPARTMENT of Higher Education Science and Technology will appoint a team of scientists to explain to the public the implementation of the Covid-19 policy, which is expected to be implemented soon.
The department’s minister Dr Blade Nzimande said the spread of untrue rumors about the vaccine by some, brought shock to members of the public, making it necessary for the public to be clear about the policy.
“The team will explain to the public what science has to say about the role the vaccine plays in Covid -19. They will also discuss openly the myths about this policy in terms of science and human health, ”said Nzimande.
Nzimande said he would also convene a meeting of experts and scientists from the Human Science Research Council (HSRC) and the National Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities (NIHSS) to come up with strategies that can be used by government and civil society to address the psychological trauma caused by Covid-19 in families.
“As a result of the virus, people are being forced to abandon the traditional rituals of the deceased, which puts a lot of pressure on families. So this meeting will come up with ideas on what can be done to reduce stress, ”said Nzimande.
He criticized people who linked the second Covid 19 cable to the installation of 5G towers and said they were misleading.
Nzimande was speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Monday to explain his department’s plans as South Africa was reinstated in the third phase of the Covid -19 hurricane.
He applauded the KwaZulu-Natal Research Informatics and Sequencing Program (KRISP) team of researchers researching SARS-Cov-2 in the country, saying R25 million had been set aside to continue research for 12 months.
