A popular actress is allegedly involved in a R100,000 bill scandal.

Phindile Gwala was born in Eshowe, KwaZulu Natal, in December 1986. Her parents, who are Christians and pastors in their Church, raised her in KwaZulu. She was one of the best actors in Muvhango, where she portrayed Nonny Nkosi, a dramatic character. She made her debut in the SABC2 soap in 2012, but she announced her departure five years later.

She is expected to make her TV comeback to one of the most-watched soapies, Uzalo, after five years of playing Nonny Nkosi, the nosy receptionist. Her reason for leaving Muvhango was that she had been working 12 hours a day, leaving little time for her family and social life.

While you cannot go to jail for owing a bill or even refusing to pay one, an outstanding debt can land you in jail if you are sued and you miss a court hearing. This has caused quite a bit of confusion among consumers who may believe they were jailed for simply owing the bill. Meanwhile, it was reported the Johannesburg High Court has finally ordered the Imbewu actress to settle her electricity bill. Following last year December, when the she was taken to court after failure to settle her R100 000 outstanding electricity bill.
