When two patrons wanted to enter a popular pub with no facemasks, as required under the current Covid-19 regulations, a bouncer was forced to send them away.

But the men weren’t ready to take no for an answer, and returned to the nightclub at midnight to force their way in.

They allegedly shot Lunga Tiyo, the bouncer who had earlier denied them entry at the famous chiller Ko9 in Alexandra.

“The scuffle started when the two bouncers told the two men to leave,” Tiyo’s wife Lebohang Mphatso told Jovaza.

Witnesses told us that one of the men called his brother, who arrived at the club with a firearm.

“The two men allegedly held Lunga while the armed man pulled the trigger. He was shot and collapsed,” said Tiyo’s grieving widow from her home in Alexandra.

“While he was lying down bleeding and in pain, another shot went off hitting him in the upper body.”

She said that Tiyo’s colleague asked for help from other customers, who rushed him to the local Masakane clinic, where he died on arrival.

Lebohang said Tiyo, a father of two, was a life coach, community builder, and loving husband and father. 

Lunga’s mother Vicky Khoza said her son was a peace-loving man who grew up preaching. 

“His death came as a shock to all of us and the other people he was serving in the community,” she said.

Provincial police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said police are investigating a case of murder, but are yet to make any arrests in connection with Tiyo’s death.
