PENALIZED! Royal AM charged by the PSL following “money splashing scandal”

Royal AM have been penalized by the PSL following unruly behaviour of their management and owner, when they were caught on tape splashing money on the players after their match.

After their last-gasp 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United, Royal AM’s top brass was seen entering the field with a big brown envelope.

ROYAL AM Top Brass Seen Flashing Money On The Field

In that envelope was were stacked up R200 notes, and Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane as well as owner and mother Shauwn Mkhize were seen calling the players, with a member of their entourage, seen yelling for the captain, before later yelling “come get your sweets”. In the videos that were trending on social media on Sunday evening, it appeared the players uneasy about the situation.

As the captain walked leading the rest of his teammates, he and his teammates looked rather bewildered by the situation and depicted hesitancy upon approaching the club top brass. Furthermore, another video that made its rounds on social media seemed to depicted a Royal AM player not being too impressed by the situation.

As Mpisane and co. approached the said player, he and the captain who stood next to him could hardly hide their true feelings about the situation, with the Royal AM player saying “Coach, they’re really going to give us the money here?”.

On Tuesday afternoon, Royal AM Chief Executive Sinky Mnisi sought to set the record straight on Ukhozi FM. The official word he gave was that the money was not for the players’ personal use but to donate to a charity/

However, that doesn’t seem to have been enough to stop the PSL from issuing Royal AM with punishment for that incident.

Club In Hot Water With The League

“The main charge is (to Royal AM) paying someone involved in a football match, a player or club official, money with regard to that match, “We have had quite a lot of kick back from supporters on this,” said PSL prosecuter Nande Becker on Wednesday.

Becker added that, the PSL had found more offences committed by Royal AM that they deemed chargeable

“We are also charging the Covid-19 officer for failing to ensure everyone was wearing face masks. And we are charging the club for allowing an invasion of the demarcated area after the match. Only the people on the team sheets and on the bench are allowed on the pitch.

“There is also a charge of leaving the change room late (before kick-off).” Concluded Becker
