Latest on MaShelembe’s baby shower took place on Sunday at eThekwini community church for mom-to-be who has kept mzansi in stitches.
IOL reported last month how Makhosazana “MaShelembe” Shelembe’s story captured the attention of South Africans last month when it was publicly revealed that her husband was to take a second wife.
The couple appeared on Mnakwethu, a TV show where men are assisted in introducing the idea of polygamy to their wives. Bheki Langa revealed to MaShelembe that he had a mistress.
He further told her that he had already paid lobola for Hlengiwe “MaSithole” Sithole, and that she was pregnant.
Isolezwe reported that Makhosi Shelembe’s mother Gculisile Maphanga told the guests that her daughter dropped out of high school at 16-years-old to take care of her, after she got injured in a fire.
“My daughter got married at a young age because she was looking after me after I was burnt by a fire,” she said.
She expressed how unhappy she was that the news of the second wife was shared on the TV show but said she was comforted by the love and help offered to her daughter by people.
“A lot of people have shown my daughter love and gave her gifts, as a family we are also getting help. I have tears of joy because of people who offered to get me groceries for the next 12 months.”
MaShelembe, 23, who left school in Grade 8, told The Mercury’s sister newspaper Isolezwe that she wants to go back to school.
“Things are hard at home. I would like to open my own shop then go back to school so that I can have a beautiful home. I was surprised by the love I got from other women. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me,” she said.
Ncumisa Ndelu, who organised the baby shower, said the purpose of the event was to help MaShelembe, not to make decisions for her.
