Why Al Ahly threatened to terminate Percy Tau contract, club legend claims

Al Ahly legend Ahmed Shobeir claimed that the club threatened to cut ties with Percy Tau if the player insisted on joining the South Africa national team camp.

Tau has joined Al Ahly earlier this summer, becoming the Egyptian Premier League’s highest-valued player.

Percy Tau is yet to make his debut for Al Ahly due to an injury he picked up while on international duty with Bafana Bafana earlier this month.

Percy Tau, who will be fit in time for the upcoming October international break, was announced in Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad however the CAF Champions League champions reportedly threatened to terminate his contract if he made himself available for Bafana Bafana.

South Africa will now have to do without Tau for their back-to-back Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia next month.

AL AHLY THREATENED TO TERMINATE PERCY TAU’S CONTRACT: HERE’S WHY!

“Percy Tau will return to train with Al Ahly again after two weeks, after recovering from his injury. Al Ahly had threatened Tau if he joined the South African national team camp, they would terminate his contract,” Al Ahly legend Ahmed Shobeir said.

Star Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau subsequently missed out on selection while the European duo of Gift Links and Luther Singh were also omitted from the national squad by Hugo Broos. Siyanda Xulu is the only foreign-based player in Broos’ latest squad.

Bafana Bafana are top of Group G with four points from two games following their goalless away draw to Zimbabwe before beating Ghana 1-0 at FNB Stadium three days later.

They’ll now have to face Ethiopia both home and away without their talisman Percy Tau who will return to training in Egypt in the coming days after making steady progress following the hamstring injury that delayed his Al Ahly debut after his blockbuster move from Brighton and Hove Albion in England.
