Lasizwe came under fire when he was recently questioned about #R10GoesALongWay the money he raised together with his team for students registration fees.
Here’s where it all began:
He went live on Instagram Together with his friends Takkies Dinwiddy, Ayanda Mhlongo and Sibu Mabena to ask how they could help raise funds to assist students with Fees during this Pandemic.3They agreed to start a #R10GoesALongWay fundraising campaign, asking the public to donate as little as R10 to an FNB account.
First night of the campaign they were able to raise R30 000 in two hours live on Insta.I think the target was R1m. Well the campaign grew to all social media platforms and money started pouring in.
Companies and public figures pledged to donate. 1m target was reachedPledges continued and over R2 million was raised in a week for university students. The team stated that since it was the first time doing crowd funding, they will look to partner with an organisation that will handle everything.
They partnered with Fundi, since the organisation also has access to registered Varsity students profiles.Fundi was given all the available find in that account, total of R1 072 462.
But What happened to the rest of the money?Apparently some companies that pledged to the campaign had to get tax clearances and “it’s been a long process”
Meaning there are companies that promised to pledged into the initiative but haven’t sent the money into the account, following procedures.
Here’s Fundi’ statement.
About 530k was paid by Fundi, they are saying the remaining 542k will also be paid to students, processes are still underway
Lasizwe and team were not wrong to include all the pledged amount to the reported balance. That’s how pledges work.
A total amount of R1m Rands can be reported in a fundraising, but with the actual R500 in the account.
Would it be that those companies pledged but yet to pay took advantage of the moment for PR stunt/publicity? Names of those companies must be mentioned so that their crooked ways can be exposed.
Fundi allegedly released the list of the already funded students – after being mute for a while.
From the list, 166 students were allegedly Funded.
Few students who benefited came out with receipts. Only saw two so farSo if there’s a need to release bank statements as a proof that all students registration was paid, Fundi must do so, because they were handling the funds.
The matter is no longer on Lasizwe’s team. They should clarify everything and clear people’s reputations.
Release statements so that people can do the math But if you can calculate based on assumptions: 165 students, let’s assume all of them paid a registration fee of 3.5k (which is impossible, some varsities you pay more), meaning 577k was paid.
But reality is that some students were given more than 6kIf you want correct answers question Fundi. They should release a detailed report since they confirmed that people who were handling the donations handed all the money
