Thembsie Matu, (born in Katlehong, Gauteng, South African), actress best known as Petronella from The Queen.

Who is Thembsie Matu?

Thembsie Matu was born in Katlehong, Gauteng, South Africa. Her date with destiny happened during her high school years after she watched a Gibson Kente play at a local community hall in her East Rand hometown of Katlehong.

Thembsie Matu Career

In 1987, Thembsie Matu made her professional stage debut in Sekunjalo (1986), one of the late playwright’s famous works. Then followed What A Shame (1989) and Give A Child (1989) as well as subsequent TV roles in Mama’s Love (1994) and Lahliwe (1999) – all these from Kente’s pen and directing.

She is also best known for her recurring role as Zinhle in the SABC3 drama television series The Lab (2006-2008), and for appearing in a popular television commercial for the insecticide Doom.

She also played the role of Nomathamsanqa on the SABC1 drama series Tshisa, from 2006-2012.

She made a guest appearance in the role of Teacher in the first episode of the SABC1 mini-series uGugu no Andile (Gugu and Andile), based on the play Romeo and Juliet, on 3 June 2008.

On 4 August 2008 she made her first appearance on the e.tv soapie Rhythm City in the guest role of Sis Bee, a battleaxe matron who fights the odds trying to care for patients under crazy circumsumstances.

Thembsie is playing the role of Petronella in Mzansi Magic soapie drama The Queen.

She was admitted at the Netcare Clinton Hospital and thanked the staff for all they did for her.

She took to Instagram to let her followers know that she is well after her hard fight with the virus and she will be back at work soon.

“It’s been a while since I communicated with you all, but I am grateful to still be alive and having had God by my side all this time. I’d like to thank the staff at Clinton for working hard to keep me alive, Covid almost killed me. I was in the hospital for five full weeks, God was with me by His grace.

One song that kept me going was Joyous Celebration Ndenzel’uncedo. I was begging God to leave me, I am Covid free but I’m still recovering. My one hand doesn’t function probably because of the drips that were in me.”
