Steps on how to apply for SASSA R350 grant in August

The SASSA R350 grant is back, this time, government has decided to allow more people to qualify for the grant.

The President said government revenue collection has slightly improved, making it possible for the temporary R350 grant to be reinstated.

“For people with no access to technology, volunteers will be trained to assist applicants who cannot use technology and will be provided with gadgets to capture details on behalf of applicants,” the Minister said.

“To support those who have no means of supporting themselves, we are reinstating the Social Relief of Distress Grant to provide a monthly payment of R350 until the end of March 2022.” said President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Unlike in previous application cycles, the SASSA will now allow unemployed caregivers who currently receive a Child Support Grant to apply.

Details about the application process for the R350 grant will be released soon.

In addition to providing grants, government has also been working to respond to the need for food relief in communities. This relief will help families affected by the lockdown.

“Government is contributing R400 million to the Humanitarian Crisis Relief Fund established by the Solidarity Fund to assist with the immediate needs of affected communities.

Beneficiaries of permanent SASSA grants can expect to receive their payments on the following dates in August:

  • Older person’s allowance: Tuesday 3 August
  • Disability allowance: Wednesday 4 August
  • Children’s grants allowance: Thursday 5 August

Beneficiaries of these permanent grants have been urged to not rush on the first day to claim their payments, as this causes long lines and overcrowding.

“There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.”

Current beneficiaries of the temporary R350 grant who are still waiting for their payments will receive a text message from SASSA informing them of their payment date.

SASSA has warned that unlike the permanent grants, the R350 grant is temporary and does not have a set payment date.

“There is no set date for R350 SRD payments. We will back-date all the months due to you” said SASSA.
