Tatjana Schoenmaker had on 3:45am on Friday morning made South Africa proud and excited after she raced to claim the Olympic Gold medal and set new world record in the women’s 200 m breaststroke beating the previous record of 2:19.11 set by Denmark’s Rikke Moller Pedersen in 2013 with a breaking time of 2 min 18.95 sec in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
South Africans have taken to social media to express their joy and excitement with their first female Olympic swimming champion since Penny Heyns won the same event back at Atlanta 1996.
