South African Covid-19 infections increase by 5,074

Over 5,000 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the last 24-hour reporting period.

This brings the total number of active cases in the country to 61,557.

Gauteng accounts for most of these.

The health department said 45 more people have succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 56,974.

Over 1.5-million people have recovered.

Over 1.3-million people have now been vaccinated.

Government is urging people to continue following precautionary measures.
