Paul Mashatile has been chosen to serve as South Africa’s new vice president. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced it during a broadcast speech to the nation on Monday night. The National Executive underwent modifications as well. “As I mentioned in my speech to the February 16 State of the Nation Debate, Vice President David Mabuza requested to resign.
Former Vice President David Mabuza stepped down from his position as an MP on March 1, 2023, after asking President Ramaphosa to do so.In his response to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 16, President Ramaphosa thanked the former Deputy President for all of his help over the past five years. At the time, the president said he was taking Mabuza’s request into account.”The Vice President has worked hard to take on the responsibilities of his job. The President said at the time, “I am grateful for all the help he has given me during his term and for the way he has led the work of government.”
“I’m thankful for his help during his five years in office and for the hard work he did for the South African government and people. The President said, “I’ve decided to make Mr. Paul Mashatile the Vice President of the Republic.”Mashatile was chosen after former Vice President David Mabuza quit his job last week.
He also said that Mabuza’s work was appreciated by the many groups he worked with, such as traditional leaders, military veterans, civil society groups, and international organizations. The President said at the time, “As Leader of Government Business, he has done a good job of managing the relationship between the Executive and Parliament.” He has worked to make sure that the transformative legislative program of this administration moves forward.In his tribute, President Ramaphosa praised Mabuza for being a good leader of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) and for spending a lot of time with military veterans and traditional leaders.
Mashatile is a 61-year-old veteran politician from the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC). He has held important positions and portfolios in government. He moved up in the government party and is now the Vice President of the ANC, which has been in power since December 2022. Before he was chosen as the ANC’s Treasurer General in 2017, Mashatile was the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in the province of Gauteng.
Mashatile has held a number of government positions in the past. He was Minister of Arts and Culture, Premier of Gauteng, and MEC for Human Settlement and Cooperative Governance.The Leader of Government Business in Parliament, who is the Deputy President, helps the President do government work.The Vice President is also in charge of the SANAC and the country’s integrated response to HIV and AIDS, among other problems.The SANAC is a group of people from the government, civil society, and the private sector who work together to fight HIV, TB, and STIs.
