Former ANC veteran, Carl Niehaus has reacted to the delay by president Cyril Ramaphosa in appointing Paul Mashatile as the deputy president in government to replace David Mabuza.
Many people believe that Paul Mashatile is being kept from starting his job in government too long after David Mabuza quit. There are allegedly certain allies who do not want Mashatile to be assigned to that job. The urgent cabinet meeting was convened by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday. Several topics, including the appointment of the minister of electricity, are thought to have been discussed during the meeting.
After the cabinet meeting, there was however nothing said on whether Paul Mashatile will be appointed to the deputy president position in government or he will be kept waiting.
Former ANC veteran, Carl Niehaus said it does not really matter whether Paul Mashatile will become the deputy president of South Africa or not. He argues that ANC is already a sinking ship, and the appointment of Mashatile will not change anything.”What does it matter, who is making who wait? We are sick and tired of all these shenanigans.
It will make no difference whether Paul Mashatile becomes deputy president or president. Only deckchairs being rearranged on the sinking Titanic. The disaster is much bigger. It is the ANC that must go,” said Carl Niehaus. Some of the decisions made during the cabinet meeting which was held on Monday, is that finance minister, Enoch Godongwana should be sworn in as a member of parliament.
Sources said this is to make way for the president to appoint a non-MP minister. President Cyril Ramaphosa is preparing for a cabinet reshuffle, and has been consulting senior leaders of the ANC and the alliance.Critics are however not happy with Ramaphosa’s indecisiveness. They said the country needs urgent action, not procrastination.
