Ramaphosa has petitioned the Constitutional Court to overturn the directions of the Section 89 independent panel report, which found clear evidence that he may have violated the Constitution by failing to report the theft of a substantial sum of foreign currency from his farm and the subsequent cover-up which made South Africans doubt his innocence.
He might have done that to avoid a situation like what’s happening now, but reporting to the Police might have won him public support. An ANC national executive committee (NEC) member who attended Monday’s meeting expressed skepticism that any ANC mechanisms would hold Ramaphosa accountable, especially since opposing viewpoints were silenced at the meeting.
This means that Cyril Ramaphosa might have succeed in silencing the majority oppressers and might walk away unscathed after this scandal cools off. Remember that the step-aside resolution was approved during the Nasrec policy conference in 2017. During that discussion, it was decided that individuals accused with corruption would willingly stand away, while those facing corruption charges would face the integrity committee.
It has since been revised to require individuals accused of corruption to resign but the ANC has never been known to follow any law expect one’s that fills the pockets of it’s members.
Conclusion
If you’re wondering how today’s meeting will work out, the integrity committee takes judgments based on the balance of probability; it considers the harm an individual has caused the party, and if it is not doing so, it has failed and should be terminated. Even the ANC has a party has failed and South Africans have lost trust in their governance.
