Some members of the African National Congress (ANC) have been left with a sour taste in their mouths by the comments made by Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former president Jacob Zuma.
According to Dudu Zuma, it’s “disgusting” for President Cyril Ramaphosa to bring up Steve Biko at all. During the time of the apartheid system, she claims he betrayed the cause by informing the government that his fellow workers were the ones brainwashing him with communist ideals.
When they were sent to Robben Island, Cyril was able to convince the apartheid regime that he was not part of the comrades who were fighting against apartheid, but rather that they were brainwashing him. Even Congress of the People president Mosioua Lekota shared these sentiments in Parliament.
That’s why, according to Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, President Cyril Ramaphosa has no right to bring up Steve Biko, who was killed by the apartheid government, she added. As of late, Zuma has been very vocal about his desire for Ramaphosa to resign.
To quote Dudu Zuma’s scathing attack on Ramaphosa: “When are you resigning? You are repulsive to even utter the name of our hero, Steve Niko. You sold out during the struggle by stating the comrades brain washed you. You are selling out now.”
After hearing Dudu Zuma’s comments, supporters of Cyril Ramaphosa came out swinging, advising her to return to Mozambique, where she was born, if she is unhappy with Ramaphosa’s presidency.
“He is not resigning whether you like it or not, he is our president… If you don’t want him as president rather go back to Mozambique where you came from,” several said.
Some people came to Ramaphosa’s rescue, saying things like, “You can tweet all crap about the president, we won’t fall into your propaganda trap. Your father was also not faultless.”
However, critics claim that while ANC members are busy bickering, opposition parties are working the ground, and the ruling party will be taught a lesson they will never forget in the 2024 election.
