Akpeyi is no longer leaving South Africa

He had been widely reported to be on his way to France in a big money move.

But that has all faded and now Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and Nigerian international Daniel Akpeyi is stuck in South Africa.

Akpeyi is currently the Chiefs number one goalkeeper and he is now targeting a new long term deal with the Soweto giants.

According to Soccer Laduma, Akpeyi is no longer looking at going overseas as he seeks to cement his legendary status at Amakhosi.

His current contract ends in June 2022 and he is desperate to extend it before 2022 comes as it would give him a better contract.

He is currently aged 34 and with the Covid-19 pandemic being experienced worldwide, his chances of an overseas move are very slim.

According to a source that spoke to Soccer Laduma, Akpeyi is happy at Chiefs and would consider hanging up his boots at the club.

“Daniel is happy at Kaizer Chiefs. He is doing well at the club and thats all a player could ask for. Chiefs is a big club and he is happy to be part of their set up and plans,” said the source.

Akpeyi has already played seven of Chiefs 13 games so far this season.
