Mayor Moses Maluleka’s murder case adjourned

The case of the murder of Mayor Collins Chabane, Moses Maluleka, has been adjourned to continue a bail hearing at Malamulele Magistrates Court.

Maluleka was shot dead at his home in the village of Xikudu in Limpopo in July. Her 18-year-old son was injured during the home invasion.

Two of the murder suspects, Avhatakali Mudau and Wisani Baloyi, appeared in court on Thursday to ask for bail, but the case was adjourned to August 26.

Both are still in custody. “They were charged with aggravated robbery, conspiracy to murder, murder, attempted murder and possession of firearms without a license,” said Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, a spokesman for the Limpopo National Public Prosecution Service.

“It is assumed that the defendant entered the deceased’s premises in the evening and shot him dead.”

The first two suspects arrested in connection with the murder appeared in court but dropped their bail applications. Their case was adjourned to September 19.
