The July/August transfer window is wide open and local football clubs are signing new additions to their squads to strengthen ahead of the upcoming campaign, and a former Orlando Pirates player has signed a new one-year deal with a club he played a few matches with last season.
Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane who spent three seasons with the Soweto-based giants signed a new deal with Baroka FC after he was appointed by the club towards the end of last season in a very short-term deal.
Jackson Mabokgwane spent three seasons with Pirates before he moved on to play for Bloemfontein Celtic over the course of two seasons from the 2019/20 season to the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
In the now concluded 2021/22 season he spent a few matches with Baroka FC featuring in 4 league matches as he signed for Bakgakga towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign on a short-term deal.
The 34-year-old shot-stopper ended the season with Baroka in the last place spot on the DStv Premiership log standings and was automatically relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The former top-flight club is looking to make a return to the DStv Premiership by hoping to win the National First Division next season, but in order to do that, the club will have to place an experienced shot-stopper in goal.
Baroka FC have now signed Jackson Mabokgwane on another short-term deal as they’ve extended his stay with a one-year contract extension. The club will have good competition in the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season and by signing Mabokgwane, they’ve made a good investment to strengthen their last line of defense.
Mabokgwane with his experience playing for Orlando Pirates, Bloemfontein Celtic, and for the South African National Football team, the club now arguably stands a good chance of challenging for promotion.
